Pure Data is a free and open source real-time graphical programming environment used by interactive artists to create a range of visual arts, audio, installation, performance and media pieces.
Pure Data is ideal for those looking to integrate emergent technologies or new media into their work for the first time, or media artists looking to explore new tools and new ways to combine them in a unified environment. It is easy to use Pure Data to create interactive environments, link animations and sound, control hardware and electronics via microcontrollers, stream audio, generate real time visuals and develop interfaces. We will be using the Arduino Diecimilia microcontroller to connect our programs to hardware.
In this class, students will learn what Pure Data is, what it can do, and begin to build simple applications in "patches". Students will also learn to alter existing patches and use help patches to create applications.
Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop.
