Atari Punk Workshop with Jimmie P. Rodgers
May 22, 2008 @ 7:00PM.
In this class you will build an Atari-punk music synth square wave
generator. It is called an Atari punk due to the 8-bit sounds that it
generates. This is a simple circuit with minimal costs, but generates
a ton of really fun sound. You can find more information about it
here: http://www.getlofi.com/?p=518
What you will be taught:
- how to read a basic schematic
- about the various parts in the kit, and what they do
- how to solder
What you need to know:
- You like making strange noises
- Where the W&B is
We have put together a basic kit with all the parts for only $15 for
members. You are more than welcome to bring your own if you wish. I
would actually encourage you to find a suitable hollow case to put
this in. One is provided in the kit, but it would be more fun to put
it inside a doll or toy! The kit includes:
1 - 10K Audio pot
2 - 470K Linear pots
3 - knobs for the pots
1 - 380r resistor
1 - 1K resistor
1 - 10K resistor
1 - 4.7K resistor
1 - 10n ceramic disk capacitor
1 - 100n ceramic disk capacitor
1 - 10μ electrolytic capacitor
1 - 556 dual timer IC
1 - red LED
1 - SPDT switch
1 - PCB breadboard
1 - 9v battery
1 - 9v battery connector
a suitable case
If you choose to bring your own parts, please have all the components
listed above, as no parts will be guaranteed available for purchase
individually.
